NREM Work Experience
“As an undergraduate I worked for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and was stationed at Lake Rathbun fish hatchery, Three Mile Lake, and the Mt. Ayr Fish Management Station. I also worked at the Aquatic Research Facility on campus. During my work experience I helped spawn walleye and catfish and transported fish around the state.”

At Home
“NREM is a very tight-knit department and a great environment where everyone belongs. I enjoyed all the department get-togethers and clubs. I was President for the American Fisheries Society student chapter and helped other students discover fisheries and I helped the public understand natural resource topics.”

And now…
“As a full-time fish culturist with New Mexico Game and Fish I am raising rainbow trout, but soon I will be working with Gila trout which were recently placed on the endangered species list. I am also working on a research project to find the cause of high mortality rates in recently hatched trout at other hatcheries. I love it here because it is in the Gila Wilderness area and it is very remote.”
