Use the model in ‘Interactive’ mode to compete with friends in reaching a common goal.

  • Players roles: Everyone playing will run the model individually, competing to see who has the best outcome after 10 years in relation to a specific goal.
  • Goals: The game will require a different strategy, depending on the goal. Thus, you will have a new game if the goal is changed. Here are four possible goals:

                  1. Production-oriented: Manage for the highest revenue

                  2. Soil Conservation:  Manage for the greatest increase in Soil Organic Nitrogen

                  3. Nitrate Reduction: Manage for the lowest nitrate flow to the Gulf of Mexico

                4. Integrative approach: Manage for the highest Crop yield possible while keeping nitrate run-off to Stream <10 ml, obtaining the best profit possible and maximizing Soil Organic Nitrogen.

  • Scoring: At the end of the 10-yr run, compare Summary pages among players. Who wins will depend on the specific goal for the game. E.g.:
  1. If the goal was ‘Production,’  then the player with the highest revenue wins.
  2. If the goal was ‘Soil Conservation,’ then the player with the highest Soil Organic Nitrogen wins.
  3. If the goal was ‘Nitrate Reduction,’ then the player with the lowest nitrate flows to streams wins.
  4. If the goal was an ‘Integrative approach’, then the player with a combination of highest revenue, lowest nitrate flows to streams, and highest soil organic N wins.
  • Strategizing: To help players improve their strategy, they might want to keep track of the settings they used. Here are some tables for that:
