  • New Project on Blockchain

    Lisa is part of a new NSF-funded interdisciplinary team that will develop the role of blockchain technology in agriculturePEWI will be incorporated within the broader impacts components of the project.

  • PhD student Matt Stephenson presents to the Indiana chapter of The Wildlife Society on his research on bird nest density and success in prairie strips compared to other agricultural conservation features. He will also present some of the STRIPS team's results on pollinator response to prairie strips.

  • Lab graduate Dr. Emily Zimmerman started her career as an Assistant Professor in the ISU Departments of Horticulture and Natural Resource Ecology and Management this semester. Emily was co-advised by Dr. John Tyndall. Her research addresses the landscape ecology and human dimensions of water quality. We are very proud of her! 

  • We are excited to welcome Dr. Suraj Upadhaya to the lab. Suraj recently finished his PhD at the University of Georgia. He will be working with Lisa and Dr. J. Arbuckle from ISU Sociology to integrate longitudinal human dimensions data with information on land cover change.

  • Welcome to our summer crews! Eric Hameister, Bryce Hostling, Jian Kai Lee, Paul Licata, Saveri Pal, and Jared Weiland are working on PEWI. Kendall Bennett, Drake Fehring, Joseph McGovern, Charli Miller, Mia Norrish, and Katrina Ruff are working on STRIPS. Drake is also working on Pigs and Prairies.

  • Welcome aboard, Ellen! Ellen Audia recently arrived from Michigan and begins her M.S. work in the lab this week. She will be working on an ecosystem service modeling project associated with C-CHANGE, while also contributing to field research on Pigs and Prairies and STRIPS this summer.

  • Congrats to Matt Stephenson and Emily Zimmerman for respectively publishing research from their Master's and PhD research this month. Matt's article appeared in the Wildlife Society Bulletin and Emily's in Water Resources Research. These papers represent years of thoughtful work and persistence, folks. 

  • Lisa returns to her alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to deliver the Entomology Department seminar today. 

  • Lisa will be speaking today at the 2019 Soil Health Conference in Ames. Her talk is titled, "Integration of Perennials in Row Cropping Systems Benefits to Soil Health,"

  • Going to the 2019 Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference in Cleveland next week? Find Matt Stephenson there presenting his research on reptile and mammal occupancy of prairie strips.

  • Congrats to Dr. Emily Zimmerman on the successful defense of her PhD dissertation! Emily's dissertation is titled "Identifying opportunities for co-production of commodities and water quality improvements in agricultural landscapes in the US Cornbelt." She is continuing on as a full-time Lecturer within ISU's Global Resource Systems program.

    Emily was co-advised by Dr. John Tyndall and joined us in 2013 directly after completing her MS at University of Michigan. At that time she was already quite familiar with ISU, having completed her BS in Biology and Global Resource Systems at Iowa State in 2011.
