Welcome and welcome back to a brand new semester here at Iowa State! I would like to invite everyone to attend the first meeting of the The Iowa State Student Chapter of the American Fisheries Society! If you are not familiar with the club, we strive to improve conditions of local fisheries and offer our members valuable experience in the field with Iowa waters. This year we're offering plenty of volunteer activities with local professionals, educational experiences, and exciting trips for those of you who want to learn what fisheries work is all about!
Interested in learning more? Please drop in to our first meeting this semester on Thursday, September 3rd at 6:00 PM in Science Hall II Room 141. There will be free pizza, and we'll have a short rundown on planned semester activities and trips before kicking off the year with a short fishing trip!
We'll be headed out to a local fishing spot (location dependent on water levels), so be sure to pack your fishing gear and permits. We have a few spare rods but you'll be able to fish more if you bring your own! Bringing a vehicle may be handy if you have one as you may park in the Sci II lot for free after 5:30 PM.
You could also take a gander at our Clubfest stand. Remember that Clubfest runs from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9th in central campus. Already a member? Please consider lending an hour or two at the stand - there'll be a club officer there at all times who can help you. We'll have a poster and an interactive display, so all you'll need to do will be to answer simple questions from passerby and make sure the stand doesn't grow feet and run away! If this sounds like something you can handle, please fill out times you may be available to help out on this Doodle (Doodle has since been closed). We'd like to have two people on the stand at all times to deal with traffic.
Looking forward to seeing fresh faces and returning members! Hope your first week of classes went well!
