Debra Peters

Paul L. Errington Memorial Lecture

Announcing the 44th Annual Paul L. Errington Memorial Lecture. Our featured speaker will be Dr. Debra Peters, on Thursday, April 10, at 7:30 PM in 1414 Molecular Biology. This year's lecture is titled "Continental-scale ecology in a connected world."

Dr. Debra Peters is a research scientist at the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Jornada Experimental Range, located in the Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem (Las Cruces, New Mexico). Dr. Peters is the Principle Investigator for the Jornada Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Site. She is skilled with interdisciplinary, problem-oriented research. Dr. Peters recently provided leadership for the National Science Foundation in the establishment of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON).

This year’s Errington Lecture will be of interest to many in the Iowa State community. Dr. Peters conducts research of interest to all applied ecologists, including: the roles of fire and grazing in grassland systems, global change effects on ecosystem dynamics across spatial scales; boundary and ecotone dynamics; spatially-explicit simulation modeling of ecosystem dynamics; cross scale interactions, and invasive species. Dr. Peters has numerous publications to her credit, truly too many to list here. Dr. Peters received her Bachelors in Science from Iowa State University, her Masters from San Diego State University, and her Doctorate from Colorado State University.
