7 - Facilities
Attending a research university definitely has its perks. NREM is no exception.
NREM is associated with two research units on campus:
NREM students have the opportunity to work in professors’ labs or to assist professors and graduate students with research and field work. What a great way to explore interests and gain work experience!
6 - Individual support
Due to small class sizes students are able to work closely with their professors.
NREM classes generally have 15 to 20 students enrolled. This small class size means students have the opportunity to ask questions and have a more individualized experience. NREM students get to know their professors, and each other, in this more interactive setting.
5 - Job opportunities
As shown by our 95% job placement rate, NREM students graduate with many options for employment.
Iowa State NREM alumni can be found in careers within business, industry, education and government agencies. Many employers specifically recruit NREM students because of the reputation our alumni and current students have built in their fields.
Each year NREM receives thousands of job announcements. There is a wide variety of natural resource-related announcements, including both internships and full-time positions.
You can view some of these job announcements on our NREM Job Board.
4 - Hands-on learning
NREM students take classroom knowledge and apply it in lab-style classes.
While we in NREM value the importance of classroom learning, we believe field experience is an essential component of natural resource education. Our classes take students out in the field, utilizing technology and equipment, and developing the skills necessary in their chosen career.
3 - NREM Family
NREM hosts a number of social events that allow students to get to know one another, and NREM faculty & staff, outside of class.
With just under 400 students in NREM, students get to know one another and NREM faculty & staff easily.
Picnics, a banquet, and our annual Chili Cook-off are just a few of the fun activities NREM hosts throughout the year.
2 - Make a difference
If you are looking to make a difference in the world, NREM is a great place for you.
