Happy to be an NREM’er
Caitlin just began her adventure at Iowa State, but she is already taking advantage of many opportunities through the department of Natural Resource Ecology & Management (NREM).
“I really like that there’s always something going on. There’s always some kind of opportunity for you to gain knowledge and experience in an area you’re interested in.”
Veterinarian in the Making
Caitlin is not only gaining knowledge, she’s applying it. She volunteers at the Wildlife Care Clinic (WCC), a part of Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
“It’s been an awesome experience because they just let you jump right in. I’ve helped tube feed a great blue heron and wrap an owl’s broken wing.”
Caitlin says the WCC is one of her favorite places and that she feels lucky to be an NREM student at Iowa State because not everyone gets that kind of hands-on experience.
Looking toward the future
“I’m enjoying my intro to natural resources class, but I’m even more excited for my fall classes. I’m going to take an honors seminar called ‘The Human-Animal Bond.’ It should be right up my alley!”
