Learner Outcomes Assessment Portfolio

Student participation

Freshman and new transfer students who enroll in NREM 110 (Orientation in Natural Resource Ecology and Management) provide input that is used in refining the Department’s general outcomes. At the beginning of Fall Semester, both sections of NREM 110 complete surveys asking them to indicate how well prepared they feel they are to perform each outcome even though they have had no formal education in natural resources ecology and management. In addition to providing base line information useful in evaluating progress in learning throughout the time the students are here, their reactions to wording of the outcomes and the survey instrument have proven helpful in refining both the outcomes and the survey instrument.

Graduating seniors participate in individual exit interviews with the Chair of the department. Comparison of freshman responses to graduating senior responses are used as one of the tools for evaluating effectiveness of the overall curricula in preparing students to perform the outcomes.
