Learner Outcomes Assessment Portfolio
Direct and Indirect Measures of Outcomes Assessment
Assessment of the department’s student outcomes includes both direct and indirect methods with more emphasis currently being placed on indirect measurement techniques.
Indirect measures of the outcomes include:
- Annual survey of program graduates from 2 & 5 years previous;
- Annual survey of a subset of employers of those graduates;
- Annual survey of entering freshmen and transfer students;
- Senior exit interviews conducted each semester.
Direct measures of outcomes include:
- Within-class assessment of associated outcomes each time the class is taught;
- Faculty review of reports and presentations prepared by students in the capstone course.
As the department’s assessment program matures, we anticipate that additional emphasis will be placed on direct assessment as the tools necessary for that assessment are developed.
